Alamogordo
Alamogordo, (pop. 27,600) town in south-central New Mexico, seat of Otero County. It is the center of an agricultural, timber, and recreation area that includes the White Sands National Monument and Lincoln National Forest. The first atomic bomb was exploded near Alamogordo in a test on July 16, 1945.
