Albatross



Albatross, any of 14 species of large, long-winged, gliding, hook-billed seabirds forming the family Diomedeidae. Two species form the genus Phoebetria, the other 12 the genus Diomedea. Most albatrosses are white with darker markings on the back, wings, and tail. The wandering albatross (D. exulans) has the broadest wingspan of any living bird—up to 12 ft (3.7 m).
