Alexander IV (Rodrigo Borgia; 1431–1503), pope (1492–1503). The most notorious of the Renaissance popes, he directed his efforts at increasing the temporal power of the papacy and creating great hereditary domains for his children, among them Cesare and Lucrezia Borgia.
