Grover Cleveland Alexander



Alexander, Grover Cleveland (1887–1950), U.S. baseball player. One of the greatest right-handed pitchers in baseball history, in 1916 he set the major league record for shutouts in a season (16). Third on the career win list with 373, Alexander's 90 career shutouts are the second most in major league history. Alexander played with the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs, and St. Louis Cardinals from 1911 to 1930. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1938.
