Alkali



Alkali, water-soluble compound of an alkali metal that acts as a strong base and neutralizes acids. Common alkalis are sodium hydroxide (NaOH), ammonia (NH3), and sodium carbonate (Na2CO3). Alkalis are used to manufacture glass, soap, paper, and textiles.
