Amarillo
Amarillo (pop. 187,547), largest city and commercial center of the Texas Panhandle. Amarillo's industries include oil, natural gas, and copper refining, as well as livestock and grains. The city offers various music and art facilities and is home to several colleges and universities. Amarillo was founded in 1887 and rapidly grew in the early 1900s with the discovery of oil.
