Amazons

Amazons, in Greek mythology, race of warrior women living in the Black Sea area. Their name derives from the Greek word for “breastless,” due to their alleged practice of removing the right breast to aid archery. For his ninth labor, Heracles (Hercules) was required to take the girdle of the Amazonian queen Hippolyta. Amazons fought on the side of Troy in the Trojan War.
