André Marie Ampère



Ampère, André Marie (1775–1836), French mathematician, physicist, and philosopher best remembered for many discoveries in electrodynamics and electromagnetism. He expanded Hans Oersted's experiment on the interaction between magnets and electric currents and investigated the force set up between current-carrying conductors. He also made contributions in the fields of statistics, chemistry, optics, and crystallography.
