Croesus



Croesus (d. c.547 B.C.), last king of Lydia (r.560–546 B.C.), and last of the Mermnadae dynasty. Known for his wealth and generosity, he ruled a large part of Asia Minor until he was overthrown by Cyrus the Great of Persia. Legend suggests he became an honored courtier of Cyrus.
