Dalmatian

Dalmatian, sturdy, medium-sized dog thought to have originated in Dalmatia (on the Adriatic Sea) many centuries ago. The dalmatian is born white and develops black or brown spots when just a few weeks old. It is used as a watchdog, for hunting, and is traditionally depicted as a companion on fire engines and coaches.
