Charles Anderson Dana
Dana, Charles Anderson (1819–97), U.S. journalist who spent 1841–46 in the Utopian Brook Farm community and later joined the New York Tribune, becoming its managing editor in 1849. He resigned from the Tribune in 1862 and in 1864–65 served as assistant secretary of war under Lincoln. In 1868 he became part owner of the New York Sun, making it a newspaper of national importance.
