Death Valley

Death Valley, arid valley in southeast California and southern Nevada. The United States' highest recorded air temperature—134°F (56°C)—was recorded here in 1913. Death Valley is 140 mi (225 km) long and up to 15 mi (24 km) wide. The lowest point in the Western Hemisphere, Badwater (282 ft/86 m below sea level), is at the heart of the valley. In 1933 it was made the Death Valley National Monument.
