Thomas De Quincey
De Quincey, Thomas (1785–1859), English essayist and critic, author of Confessions of an English Opium Eater (1822), which established his literary reputation. His output, affected by lifelong opium addiction, was erratic, but included penetrating essays and powerful descriptions of drug-inspired dreams.
