John Dickinson
Dickinson, John (1732–1808), U.S. statesman. Opposed to British colonial policy but against separation from Britain, he wrote
Letters from a Farmer in Pennsylvania (1767–8) and, while a member of the Continental Congress (1774–6), probably drew up the Declaration Setting Forth the Causes and Necessity of Their Taking Up Arms (1775). He wrote the first draft of the Articles of Confederation.See also: Articles of Confederation.
