Everett McKinley Dirksen



Dirksen, Everett McKinley (1896–1969), U.S. legislator. Illinois Republican representative (1933–48) and senator (1950–69), Dirksen was Senate minority leader from 1959 until his death. He delivered conservative Republican support of major bipartisan legislation, most notably in the case of the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964.
