Gaetano Donizetti
Donizetti, Gaetano (1797–1848), Italian opera composer. Influenced by Gioacchino Rossini, he developed the traditions of serious and comic opera. His operas include The Elixir of Love (1832), Lucia di Lammermoor (1835), and Don Pasquale (1843). He was an important influence on Giuseppe Verdi.
