Herbert Henry Dow



Dow, Herbert Henry (1866–1930), pioneer in the U.S. chemistry industry. In 1897 Dow founded the Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Mich. At first Dow focused on deriving the maximum value from brines (concentrated solutions of salt and water), developing insecticides and Pharmaceuticals. The first important producer of iodine, Dow was eventually granted more than 100 patents and became one of the world's largest chemical companies.
