Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf (pop. 576,700), city in Germany, 25 mi (40 km) northwest of Cologne. It is the capital of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Düsseldorf is an important Rhine River port, a road and railroad junction for the industrial Ruhr region, a West European air terminal, and a leading manufacturing and financial center. Iron and steel, chemicals, textiles, and machinery are among its main products. The city has study centers for medicine, metallurgy, and art.
