Electric wiring

Electric wiring, system of wires that carries electric current through a building. The United States' National Electric Code specifies safe installation and selection of electric wires, an important function, since faulty wiring is a common cause of fire. Most homes use 120-volt circuits of 15 amperes, although large appliances and machinery use 240-volt circuits with greater amperage.
