Elizabeth

Elizabeth (1709–62), empress of Russia (1741–62), daughter of Peter the Great. She staged a coup against her cousin, Ivan VI, to gain the throne. She rid the court of German influence, founded Moscow University, and pursued the Seven Years War against Prussia.
