Epistle
Epistle, special, formal letter in the New Testament of the Bible. There are 21 epistles—14 are attributed to Paul, 2 to Peter, 3 to John, 1 to James, and 2 to Jude. Those ascribed to Paul are known as Pauline epistles, while the others are called Catholic, or general, epistles.
