Eudoxus of Cnidus
Eudoxus of Cnidus (400–350 B.C.), Greek mathematician and astronomer who proposed a system of homocentric crystal spheres to explain the movements of the planets; this system was adopted in Aristotle's cosmology. He was probably responsible for discovering parts of geometry detailed in Euclid's Elements.
