Executive

Executive, the part of government that implements laws; also, the head of that part. In the United States the executive shares power with the legislative and the judiciary branches. It is headed by the president, who appoints all executive officers, usually subject to Senate approval. The cabinet, federal departments such as the defense department, foreign ambassadors, and hundreds of boards and commissions come under the jurisdiction of the executive. The term is also used generally for that part of a private organization or company that manages and controls its business.
