Exeter



Exeter (pop. 102,000), port city on the Exe River and capital of Devonshire, England. The center of transportation and trade for southwestern England, it is an area of much historic interest, containing ancient Roman ruins as well as the Norman Cathedral, built in the 12th century. Parts of the city were restored after severe damage during World War II.
