Exxon Corporation
Exxon Corporation, one of the world's largest petroleum company, founded 1882, by the Rockefeller family, as the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey. The company is involved in exploration, production, refining, and distribution of oil and natural gas. It owns wells, refineries, petrochemical plants, pipelines, and tanker fleets, and operates in nearly 100 countries. The company was responsible for the largest oil spill in U.S. history, when the tanker Exxon Valdez ran aground in the Bay of Alaska (1989).
