Peter Faneuil



Faneuil, Peter (1700–43), wealthy Boston merchant. In 1742 Faneuil built a public market and meeting place which he named after himself. Faneuil Hall became known as the Cradle of Liberty because of the historic meetings that took place there during the Revolutionary and Civil wars. Today Faneuil Hall houses a library and a military museum.
