Jules François Camille Ferry
Ferry, Jules François Camille (1832–93), French statesman. As minister of education (1879–80, 1882) he organized the modern French educational system. He sought to exclude the clergy from education. As premier (1880–81, 1883–85), he directed the acquisition of many colonies.
