François Marie Charles Fourier
Fourier, François Marie Charles (1772–1837), French Utopian socialist. Rejecting capitalism, he devised a social system based on cooperative, primarily farming communes of about 400 families. Fourierism gained considerable following in France and the United States, but attempts to put his theories into practice, as at Brook Farm, Mass., were short-lived.
