Charles James Fox



Fox, Charles James (1749–1806), English statesman and orator, champion of political and religious freedom, and fierce opponent of George III and the power of the crown. Originally a Tory but later a Whig, he was elected to Parliament in 1768. He championed the colonists in the Revolutionary War (1775–83) and supported the French Revolution (1790s).
