Anatole France



France, Anatole (Jacques Anatole François Thibault; 1844–1924), French novelist and critic. Though he believed in and worked for social justice, his work is deeply pessimistic. Among his best-known books are Penguin Island (1908) and The Revolt of the Angels (1914). He won the 1921 Nobel Prize in literature.
