Fraunces Tavern



Fraunces Tavern, historic building in New York City located at the corner of Broad and Pearl streets. The former De Lancey mansion, it was purchased in 1762 by Samuel Fraunces, a West Indian, and became the Queen's Head Tavern. Before the American Revolution it was a meeting place for patriotic groups, including the Sons of Liberty. George Washington said farewell to his officers here in 1783.
