Carlos Fuentes



Fuentes, Carlos (1928– ), Mexican author of novels, essays, and short fiction. His works emphasize the elusive nature of time, historical truth, and personal identity, and tend to be unconventionally structured. Among his best known novels are Terra Nostra (1975) and The Hydra's Head (1977). Later works include Gringo Viejo (1985), Cristobal Nonato (1987), and Constancia y Otras Novelaspara Virgenes (1989).



Fuentes served as ambassador to France 1975–77.
