Fusion

Fusion, in physics, collision of 2 highly accelerated atomic nuclei to form the single nucleus of a heavier element. Fusion reactions (also called thermonuclear reactions) require extreme heat and release large amounts of energy. They occur naturally in space but are human-made phenomena on earth. Hydrogen bombs use the fusion process.
