Gaelic literature

Gaelic literature, writings in the Gaelic language. Irish Gaelic has 3 periods: Old Irish (up to 10th century), Middle Irish (up to mid-15th century), and Modern Irish. The early literature consists chiefly of lyric verse and sagas, of which the Ulster Cycle is a famous example. Scottish Gaelic diverged from the Irish tradition in 1300 and developed particularly in the area of poetry.
