Galicia

Galicia, historic region in east-central Europe, now part of Poland and Russia's Western Ukraine. It is rich in minerals and agriculture. Part of Poland since the 14th century, it was annexed by Austria in the 18th century, but was again Polish after World War I. After World War II its eastern portion passed to the USSR.
