Rómulo Gallegos



Gallegos, Rómulo (1884–1968), Venezuelan novelist and statesman. Elected president of Venezuela in 1947, he was almost immediately overthrown by a military coup. His short stories and novels, of which the best known is Doña Bárbara (1929), are primarily didactic and ideological works concerned with social reform.
