Bob Geldof

Geldof, Bob (1954– ), rock musician who launched a musical mobilization to aid starving people in Africa. In 1984 a single record by a group of British rock stars (“Band Aid”) organized by Geldof raised $11 million. The Live Aid concert, held in London and Philadelphia in July 1985 and broadcast around the world, brought in an additional $72 million.
