General Motors Corporation, major U.S. manufacturer of motor vehicles and auto parts. Founded in 1908 to consolidate companies producing the Buick, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, and other cars, it also became producer of the Pontiac, the Chevrolet, and GMC trucks. General Motors now has factories and distribution facilities throughout the world.
