(Jean Louis André) Théodore Géricault
Géricault, (Jean Louis André) Théodore (1791–1824), French painter. His style combined a massive, dynamic romanticism with a minutely detailed realism. In his studies of lunatics, his horse paintings, and the Raft of the Medusa (1818–1819), Géricault's revolutionary approach helped eclipse the classical school in French art.
