Christoph Willibald von Gluck
Gluck, Christoph Willibald von (1714–87), German operatic composer. In Orpheus and Euridice (1762) he introduced a new kind of opera combining drama, music, and emotion. His Alceste (1767) considerably influenced Mozart. His greatest work is Iphigenia in Tauris (1779).
