Robert Hutchings Goddard



Goddard, Robert Hutchings (1882–1945), U.S. physicist, pioneer of rocketry. In 1926 he launched the first liquid-fuel rocket. He developed many of the basic ideas of modern rocketry; among over 200 patents was one for a multistage rocket.
