Goldfinch

Goldfinch, small, short-tailed bird (genus Carduelis) of the finch family, also called wild canary because of its musical song and the male's bright yellow color. North American goldfinches include the lesser goldfinch, Lawrence's goldfinch, and the American goldfinch. The European goldfinch was introduced to North America in the 1800s but is found only in Europe today. The American goldfinch is approximately 5 in (13 cm) long.
