Goldfish



Goldfish (Carassius auratus), freshwater fish of the carp family. The goldfish is native to China and was domesticated more than 2,000 years ago. In its wild form it is olive in color and grows up to 16 in (40 cm) long; the domesticated goldfish may be as small as 1–4 in (2.5–10 cm) long and is often red, although some are bred for mottled colorings as well as elaborate fins.
