William Gerald Golding
Golding, William Gerald (1911–93), English novelist. His powerful allegorical works explore the nature of humanity, and include Lord of the Flies (1954), The Spire (1964), and Darkness Visible (1979). He received Britain's Booker McConnell Prize in 1980 and the Nobel Prize for literature in 1983.
