Great Bear Lake



Great Bear Lake, largest lake in Canada and fourth largest in North America. It has an area of 12,275 sq mi (31,792 sq km) and an elevation of 390 ft (119 m) above sea level. Its deepest point is 1,350 ft (411 m). It is located about 250 mi (402 km) east of the Rocky Mountains, and lies partly within the Arctic Circle. Pitchblende ore, which contains radium and uranium, is mined on the southeast shore of the lake.
