Great Rift Valley
Great Rift Valley, large geological depression extending more than 3,000 mi (4,800 km) from southeast Africa to northern Syria. In Africa its west course is partly occupied by lakes Malawi (Nyassa), Tanganyika, Kivu, Edward, and Albert; its east course by Lake Turkana.
