Haifa
Haifa (pop. 251,000), port city in northern Israel, an important manufacturing and transportation center. The ancient city, dating from the 3rd century, was destroyed (1191) during the Third Crusade. Later rebuilt, it became a major port in the late 19th century. It is the world headquarters of the Baha'i religion.
