Harunobu



Harunobu (Suzuki Harunobu; 1725–70), Japanese artist who perfected multi-colored printmaking. At a time when the Japanese were limited to black-ink prints with no more than 2 other colors, Harunobu refined a process of using woodblocks to print with as many as 10 colors. His subjects typically captured the calmness and intimacy of ordinary life.
