Harvest moon
Harvest moon, popularly, the full moon that occurs nearest to the time of the autumnal equinox (around Sept. 23). The moon rises at about the same time for several nights and may be bright enough to help farmers in harvesting their crops. The effect is most pronounced in high latitudes, such as in Canada. In the southern hemisphere the harvest moon occurs around the time of the vernal equinox (around Mar. 21).
