Coleman Hawkins

Hawkins, Coleman (1904–69), U.S. tenor saxophonist. Hawkins's musical style, punctuated by full, energetic tones, forced people to recognize the tenor saxophone as an integral jazz instrument. His improvisational style was well liked internationally and influenced many musicians of the 1930s and 1940s.
